Freehold Community Primary Academy

Nursery

We have a strong ethos at Freehold, where we believe that very young children learn best through play. We want our children to be independent, inquisitive, brave, excited and...most of all, happy here!

Nursery information

Please see the following document, which gives you further information about our Nursery, curriculum and ways to support your child at home.

Important information

Nursery Red starts at 8.45am and finishes at 11.45am. Nursery Blue starts at 12.30 and finishes at 3.30pm.

Please make sure you send your child in the appropriate clothing. We go outside everyday so we need to keep warm and dry. This means a waterproof coat, sensible shoes or even wellies! We also ask that you send children in wearing clothes that you do not mind getting a little bit messy, we love to paint, create and explore and this often means we might get messy ourselves! Sending a spare set is always a good idea!

We have a snack circle time in Nursery, which includes fruit, milk and water.

Please remember that we need to meet any new adults who will be picking up your child in advance before we will be able to let your child leave school. Please ensure the information you give us on our contact sheet is correct and understand that this is for the safeguarding of your child.

If you need to get in touch with Miss Stevens, please use the Class Dojo app. If you are unsure how to do so please just ask, we are happy to help or follow the instructions below to ensure your account is set up. We will also be using Class Dojo to communicate with you and share some of your child's learning.

Attendance matters

It is extremely important to establish good habits for attendance right from the start. Good attendance is 96% or above. Please read the following leaflet about the impact attendance has on your child.

 Homework

Reading provides the foundation for other learning and it is very important to spend quality time reading with your child. We will send a book home every Monday. Please bring book bags back by Thursday each week.

 Learning resources for parents

A big part of learning to read is phonics and, in Nursery, learning to listen, hear sounds, say sounds and rhymes provides the foundations for phonics. Please click on the link below to access some parent resources around rhymes from Little Wandle, our phonics scheme.
