Year 1
Please see the information below which explains our curriculum organisation for our Year 1 children. PE
Your PE day is Tuesday, please send your child to school in their PE kits in the morning which they will wear for the full day. You can send their school jumper too on colder days. If you have any questions regarding this, please see a member of staff. Your PE kit should include plain jogging bottoms or leggings, pumps or trainers, plain shorts and white t-shirt and if needed a black or navy hoodie.
Bottles and Snacks: Children should bring a labelled water bottle daily so that they can drink this at the appropriate time. Prior to school, children will be able to purchase a healthy snack from our Tuck Shop. Snacks can be brought to school but we ask that they are the same snacks as we sell in the tuck shop.
Reading
Children will bring a reading book home each week that will be matched to their phonics knowledge, this will be changed on a weekly basis. Your child will also bring home a story book for you to enjoy together. You will also be able to access online reading books through Big Cat Books - if you require your login detail for this please contact - Miss Mills or Miss Morgan.
Book bags and homework
Book bags will be sent home every Friday and will include:
1. A reading book matched to phonics.
2. A story book to read together and enjoy.
3. A spelling book to practice (we will have a spelling test each Friday).
4. A reading record. Please note any comments of the amazing reading your child does at home.
5. Homework (if appropriate).
Please bring book bags in on Thursday.
Spellings
Your child will receive weekly spellings to practice and learn at home. Every Friday, there will be a spelling test in class, which will test the children on the words given that week.
Uniform
At Freehold we expect our children to wear their uniform everyday. This includes- a purple school jumper, a white shirt, black trousers or skirt and black shoes.
Trips
In Year One we go on a trip to Castleshaw, which links to our Geography learning. We will take some trips to different places of worship such as churches and mosques.
