Things you need to know:
Attendance: At Freehold, our attendance target is 96%
School opening times:
Please remember to always be on time and in school ready for your learning. School starts at 8:40 and finishes at 3:15. It is so important that you are in school everyday!Breakfast Club: Breakfast club is available from 8am and is a cost of 50p per day for your child to take part in sports, mindfulness and film watching. They will also receive some cereal or toast and a drink.
PE:
PE day is Thursday afternoons. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school PE kit which consists of a white top, some black shorts or jogging bottoms and a pair of black pumps all labelled correctly with you child’s full name. This can be worn instead of your school uniform on Thursday.
Book Bags
Book Bags will be given out on a Friday containing your child’s homework, weekly spellings, and their changed reading book. Please return this every Thursday with their completed homework. You can return this sooner once completed if preferred.
Homework
Every Friday, your child will receive their homework bag which will contain weekly spellings that they need to learn for the following Fridays spelling test – please help your child practise these regularly. Also, they will also need to practice times tables (via Times Tables Rock Stars) daily. Furthermore, this year it is an expectation that your child reads at home regularly and as a result their reading records are completed every time they read at home, signed by an adult. Their reading records will be checked when returned and children will receive certificates for their efforts. Homework bags should be returned every Wednesday.
The spelling list for Year 3 spellings are below. Your child should be able to spell all of these words before they leave year 3 ready for year 4.
Water Bottles and Snacks
Children should bring a labelled water bottle daily so that they can drink this at the appropriate time. Prior to school, children will be able to purchase a healthy snack from our Tuck Shop. If children choose to bring their own snack to school, please ensure it is a healthy choice.
Weekly Tests
On Fridays, we will be having our weekly Spelling and Times Tables Test. The weekly words and times tables will be sent out on a Friday and you will be expected to support your child in learning these words in preparation for the test.
Uniform & Clothing
It is expected that children come to school everyday wearing full uniform of skirt/trousers, shirt or white polo top along with a school jumper or cardigan. Children should be wearing smart, black footwear. Trainers are unacceptable. Please ensure that your child comes to school with a waterproof coat. Children play outside in all weather and it may be needed for outdoor lessons.
Our Learning Journey for this term
In geography, we will be learning all about Egypt. We will learn about: Where Egypt is on a map, what distance and direction Egypt is from Manchester, the 4 major regions of Egypt and importance of the River Nile.
In science this term, we will be looking light and shadow. We will be learning about why we need light and understand the difference between natural and artificial light sources. We will also look at how shadows are formed, the different types of shadows and why we need to protect our eyes from the sun.
In writing, we will be creating our own story on a myth – developing our own story about a character who goes on a magical journey to reunite a mythical object with its rightful owner.
In reading we will be reading The Nothing To See Here Hotel. We will be developing a range of skills including retrieval, inference and vocabulary whilst learning to read fluently with expression.
In maths the units we will be covering are multiplication and division, as well as units of measure.
