"Hello Year 6! What a wonderful year we are going to have! Collectively, we have many years experience teaching in UKS2 and we are so excited to share it alongside you! Although we face lots of challenges in Year 6, we also have lots of fun too! We want to make your last year at Freehold a great one. We can’t wait to watch you grow and learn lots of new things throughout the year before you face your next exciting adventure at high school!"
Key information
Here you will find important key dates, general information and details about our class books and learning but most importantly what great learning and fun activities we have been involved in.
Attendance
At Freehold our attendance target is 96%. Please ensure your child is in school every day on time. Please remember the new school start time is 8:45am. If your child's attendance is 96% or above, they will receive a treat at the end of each half term!
School opening times
Children are collected from the MUGA by their teacher at 8:40am ready to start learning at 8:45am. School finishes at 3:15pm and the Year 6 children will leave the building via the nursery playground.
Breakfast Club: Breakfast club opens at 8.15am and finishes at 8.45am when school starts. On arrival, breakfast and juice are provided as well as sport opportunities with , our PE coach. Breakfast Club staff will ensure your child reaches their classroom on time to begin their learning at 8:45am. The cost is 50p per day.
PE Day: Wednesday morning
Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school PE kit which consists of a white top, some black shorts/joggers/leggings and a pair of black pumps or trainers, all labelled correctly with your child’s full name.
Homework
This year, your child will receive weekly spellings on a Monday. They must practise these at home throughout the week and return them on a Friday.
In addition, they will also be expected to read at home at least 3 times a week and record this in their reading record. They should return this every Friday so that teachers can monitor what they are reading at home. We would really appreciate it if you could listen to your child read to ensure they are making progress at home.
Reading a variety of different books, visiting Oldham Library weekly or completing a book challenge will encourage your child to have pleasure for reading and broaden their imagination to support them in school.
Water Bottles and Snacks
Children should bring a labelled water bottle daily so that they can drink this at the appropriate time. Prior to school, children will be able to purchase a healthy snack from our Tuck Shop. If children choose to bring their own snack to school, please ensure it is a healthy choice.
Weekly Tests
On Fridays, we will be having our weekly Spelling and Arithmetic tests. The weekly words will be sent out on a Friday and it would be great if you can support your child in learning these words in preparation for the test.
Uniform
It is expected that children come to school everyday wearing full uniform of skirt/trousers, shirt or white polo top along with a school jumper or cardigan. Children should be wearing smart, black footwear. Trainers are unacceptable. Please ensure that your child comes to school with a waterproof coat. Children play outside in all weather and it may be needed for outdoor lessons.
Our Learning Journey for Autumn Term
This half term we will begin our new quality text, Kick. During our foundation lessons, we will be developing and building on our geographical knowledge of the United Kingdom. In science, our unit is adaptation and inheritance, where we will learn about our make up and how species have evolved over time.
